Insulin is a hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreas; insulin has a key role in regulating the blood glucose levels. It regulates the metabolism of glucose and other nutrients in the body. The beta cells of the pancreas of people with type 1 diabetes do not produce sufficient insulin to regulate blood glucose level; therefore, they need to intake insulin daily. On the other hand, people with type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes need doses of insulin together with other medication. Different type of insulin such as human insulin and insulin analogs are available for insulin replacement therapy.
