Market Definition of Gasoline Direct Injection Systems in the Automotive Industry:
An automotive gasoline direct injection system (GDI) injects fuel (diesel or gasoline) into the combustion chamber of automobile engines. Gasoline direct injection systems offer better efficiency, higher performance, and lower emissions. This technology has emerged from an imminent need to reduce fuel consumption. By installing GDI systems, vehicles gain precise control over the amount of fuel that needs to be injected, and the timing of the injection as per the engine load.
Automotive gasoline direct injection systems are divided into two categories: mechanical and electronic. These categories are further classified according to the injection scheme: single port injection, multi-port injection, and direct injection.
High adoption of the automotive GDI, is propelling the market to grow significantly at a CAGR of around 20% during the forecast period.

Combustion Modes for Engine Management Systems:
Ultra lean burn or stratified charge mode:
It is used for light-load running situations, at continuous or dropping road speeds, where no acceleration is required. The fuel is not injected at the intake stroke but rather at the last stage of the compression stroke.
Stoichiometric mode:
It is used for moderate load situations. Fuel is injected during the intake stroke, generating a homogeneous fuel-air mixture in the cylinder.
Full power mode:
It is used for rapid acceleration and heavy loads. The air-fuel mixture is consistent, and the ratio is slightly richer than stoichiometric, which helps to avoid detonation.
Top Vendors in the GDI Systems Market in the Automotive Industry:
Manufacturing of direct injection systems is dominated by many global players who are expanding their presence in developing countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
German automakers such as Volkswagen and BMW were amongst the first carmakers to adopt direct injection for gasoline engines. However, new companies such as Ford, GM and Hyundai are also rolling it out. Top vendors include the following:
Other prominent vendors in the market include Airtex Products, Continental, Haynes, Helio Precision, Holley Performance, Keihin, Motonic, MSR technologies, Orbital, Raydiance, and Stanadyne.
Market Share by Geographical Segmentation of the GDI Systems Market:
The high adoption of the gasoline direct injection in the automotive sector is experienced across the key regions. The market is experiencing an upsurge in the demand for gasoline direct injection from developing countries in addition to developed ones. The emergence of manufacturing industries in developing countries further improves the growth potential of this market for the forecast period.
