Radar systems are used for detecting various objects including spacecraft, aircraft, motor vehicles, terrains, and guided missiles. These systems emit radio waves from an antenna to determine the angle, range, and velocity of objects. The combination of varactor diodes and VCOs in radar systems help in providing signal tracking filters. Oscillators integrated into radar systems convert DC voltage from a source into RF signal and varactor diodes help in tuning this output frequency from VCOs. A positive output is produced whenever the frequency from the source is low. This increases the reverse bias on varactor diodes which results in increased frequency output and decreased capacitance at the local oscillator. When the frequency from the source is high, the reverse method is followed.
With growing focus on national border security, the demand for radar systems is also increasing. Several countries are making significant investments in radar systems. For instance, the Japanese government signed a contract with Lockheed Martin in July 2018, to supply radar systems for its missile defense systems. Thus, the increasing demand for radar systems is identified as a major factor driving varactor diode market growth at a CAGR of almost 11% during the forecast period.
